As a business within the creative sewing industry, we're very aware that both the products we sell and the packaging we use will inevitably have an impact on our environment ... and it concerns us greatly.
An estimated 12.7 million tonnes of plastic, everything from plastic bottles and bags to microbeads end up in our oceans each year. It equates to about a lorry full each and every minute.
This plastic pollution knows no bounds and get's a free ride on ocean currents, turning up in every corner of the globe...
The seas and oceans are becoming overwhelmed with plastics of all types. Larger pieces are choking and entangling turtles and seabirds whilst smaller pieces are clogging the stomachs of creatures who mistake it for food, from tiny plankton to whales. Plastic is now entering every level of the ocean food chain and even ending up in the seafood on our plates.
We're confident that businesses or individuals connected with sewing or who use fabrics are in a great place to make a difference ... check out some of the resources below to get involved.
Sew For The Ocean is a non-commercial activity for us and we are happy to share any ideas with the many companies, organisations and individuals we work with as well as those we don't.
Ultimately, a problem shared is a problem solved.
